The Warragul Farmers Market: A delightful morning for the whole family

Whether you’re local, or visiting for the weekend, the monthly Warragul Farmers Market is a must-stop attraction only 5 minutes from Bloomfield Estate. Showcasing the best food, produce and artisan goods the region has to offer, the market is a calendar staple for the local farmers, growers, and producers of Gippsland.

Taking place on the third Saturday of each month on Civic Road in Warragul, the Market is the perfect place to start the weekend. Pick up a coffee and a pastry, and stroll the market lanes to discover handmade goods, plants and gifts. Or, indulge the senses and taste test the goods from one – or all! – of the international and local ready-to-eat food stalls.

For those who like to stock their pantry, there’s no passing the award-winning Chilli Oil from Mrs C’s. A generational family recipe, the oil is hand-made with a little of this and a little of that, to create the unbeatable kick chilli-lovers salivate for. For a sweet winter treat, the Pecan Pie by Alison from A Lot of Good Stuff is a local favourite and the perfect dish to take home and claim as your own. And be quick if you want to pick up the hotly demanded smoked trout dip from Alpine Trout Farm, it’s always a sell-out.

If lunch is what you’re after, find a spot for your feast near the live music stalls. With performances from the Warragul Salvation Army Brass Band, local acoustic musicians Mel and Rich, as well as children’s performers, there is always a show to enjoy. And on the menu? How about a sensational grass-fed beef pie from local Watergrass Hill Angus, a Turkish Gozleme, or a yummy chocolate slice from Devour Truffles?

More recently, the market has hosted the inaugural Warragul Kids Farmers Market Cooking Club, a fun cooking event for mini sous chefs who want to learn basic cooking skills, as well as experience new ingredients by touching, smelling, tasting, observing, and listening. An engaging way to build confidence and self-esteem in the kitchen, as well as make new friends, the event is for children aged 5 through to 11 and is hosted by Chef Cindy Powell. Keep an eye on the Market Facebook page for scheduling because spaces at the first event booked up fast!

With more than 60 stalls hosting all sorts of wonderful local offerings, the Warragul Farmers Market makes a delightful morning for the whole family. Whether you’re picking up produce for the week or visiting for a delicious brunch to a backdrop of live music, it’s the perfect spot for a special Saturday – every month.
